How to Save Instagram Photos in Full Resolution

Taking a screenshot of an Instagram photo is the most common way people try to "save" it — and it's also the worst way. Screenshots capture your screen's resolution, not the photo's actual resolution, and they crop in the interface elements around it. If you want the real, full-resolution image, you need to fetch the original file.

Why Screenshots Lose Quality

A screenshot is limited to your device's screen resolution, which is almost always lower than the resolution Instagram actually stores. On top of that, screenshots pick up surrounding UI (the caption, like button, status bar) that you then have to crop out, losing even more detail in the process.

How to Download the Original File

1. Open the photo post (or multi-photo carousel) you want to save.
2. Tap Share → Copy Link.
3. Paste the link into Cheff Downloader's Photo Downloader.
